2020 Ram 1500 vs 2020 Chevrolet Silverado

It's the battle of the pickup trucks, and today we're pinning the 2020 Ram 1500 against the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado to find out which truck is the superior model. Both trucks saw a complete redesign last year and returned for the 2020 model year with a new diesel engine, but to find out which truck is best one for you, we're going to dive into the features and powertrains that make these two trucks different.

2020 Ram 1500 Power & Handling

The Ram 1500 powertrain lineup consists of three engines. The standard engine is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with eTorque technology that makes 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. Then there is a 5.7-liter V8 engine that is available with or without eTorque. Both of the V8 engines make 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. The variant with eTorque can tow up to 12,750 pounds. The new third-generation 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine makes 260 horsepower, 480 lb-ft of torque, and can tow up to 12,560 pounds. Any engine in the lineup can be paired with any model, including the Ram Rebel, which previously wasn't available with the diesel engine.

While Ram allows you to pick and choose which engine you want to pair with which model, Chevrolet restricts its engines to specific models. The base Silverado Work Truck uses a 4.3-liter V6 engine that outputs 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque. Several trim levels later, you'll find the LT with a 2.7-liter engine that makes 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque. The LT Trail Boss then comes with a 5.3-liter V8 engine that makes 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. This model comes standard with four-wheel-drive, while the previous models we mentioned comes standard with rear-wheel-drive. Other engines available on higher trims include a 3.0-liter inline-six turbocharged diesel engine and a 6.2-liter V8 engine.

The Ram Rebel is prepped for the trails with skid plates, an electronic locking rear axle, tow hooks, 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac® all-terrain tires, and rugged styling. On the Laramie model, you'll get heated and ventilated front seats, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, and 20-inch wheels. On higher trim levels, you'll find a 12-inch touchscreen, four-corner air suspension, a spray-in bedliner, heated rear seats, power running boards, and more!

There are a total of eight trim levels in the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado lineup. The base Work Truck receives standard equipment such as air conditioning, a six-speaker sound system, smartphone integration, and steel wheels. The Custom is next with cruise control, heated mirrors, and front tow hooks. The LT builds on the Custom model features with an 8-inch touchscreen, LED headlights, and a tailgate damper.
